Don't Leave the House at Night - PECS Social Story with Sentence Strips - Autism Visual Aid
Is your child or teen a 'runner' or an 'escape artist' ? Do you feel you have to lock your doors and even windows? If you do, then you know exactly what I am talking about. Before you even bat an eyelash, they are out the door. As your young 'runner' becomes a teen, sometimes these episodes happen at night while you are asleep.
This is EVERY parents WORST NIGHTMARE!!
As ASD children enter puberty, these encounters can happen with more frequency. Their 'urge' to leave or run can be overwhelming. Nobody knows exactly what makes our teens 'run' or 'escape' but they do, and often it is at night when they can't be stopped.
This story can help let them know about the dangers that lurk in the night. Why it is NOT okay to leave home. What they should do if they feel the urge to leave. It can help put a 'visual dialogue' in their mind so that they can potentially understand that this is not safe behavior.
This book has the added benefit of PECS Sentence Strips. This provides the additional benefit of attaching a picture to every word in the story. Because children with autism think in pictures, they also learn in pictures.
